Want to know a secret? Nutrition does not have to be so complicated. We like to create all these rules and regulations, but our body is pretty amazing and really speaks to us…when we listen.

I used to be the girl who ate by diet culture standards; low-fat, fat-free, artificial and packaged. What this style of eating left me with was a yearning for more food and I would end up with severe cravings and eventually binge. It was like a radio station with too much static—I could only stay out of tune like this for so long.

One day, I decided to change my channel for good and today my station is harmonious and clear. I finally hear what my body is telling me.

Upon waking, I don’t think about what I “should have,” to eat. Instead, I eat based on what foods are the first to come to mind. Most days the foods that come to mind are wholesome like eggs, plain oatmeal or 3 ingredient pancakes. Occasional days? I want to enjoy a donut with a cup of coffee.

Yep. It’s okay—it’s one donut.

The following breakfast has been in my top five BEST breakfasts for a long time now. When I got home from teaching my workout class, I knew it had to be this one today; toast, almond butter, banana, and cinnamon (times two slices—one just looked brighter in the photo).

I urge you today to listen to what radio station you are on with your body—is it all fuzzy with lots of static? If so, dial in and see if you can’t listen to a clearer station. Your body knows what it needs.
